Bobby Horner
About Bobby
Bobby Horner has lived in Waco since 1976; attending Texas State Technical Institute receiving an associate's degree in architectural Drafting and Design. He worked for Waco architects twenty-two years, followed by employment with the City of Waco Inspection Department, retiring in February of 2025.
Horner’s interests include Waco History, Tourism, Waco continued development growth, Skills USA Texas where he serves on the Skills USA Texas State Board of Directors, and specifically for TEAMWORKS for Secondary Education (High School). He also serves on the Advisory Boards of the Building Construction Trades Careers at TSTC.
Horner serves on the McLennan County Historical Commission as Vice Chair, the Taylor Museum Board President, a member of Historic Waco, and is on the Jacob De Cordova Society Steering Committee.
Bobby Horner came on the board May 27, 2025, so far has 100% attendance.
Bettie V. Beard
About Bettie
Freelance writer with degrees and a background in social work and gerontology. She has a variety of interests including politics, education, family, aging and social issues.
Bettie Beard is a longstanding member of the board predating the beginning of our organization. Her attendance is around 90% for the past 12 months.

Academic Interests & Research Narrative
My research interests include the political activities of Lady Anne Blunt, her efforts in the late nineteenth century to encourage Britain to support Egyptian independence, and her consistent support for the Egyptian revolutionaries and their cause. I am also interested in the interaction between British diplomats and officials and the Egyptian intellectual and governing classes.
A different area of research is the political economy of the horse trade between the Arab world and South Asia.

Stephen Sloan
About Stephen
Stephen M. Sloan is a Professor of History and Director of the Institute for Oral History at Baylor University. He also currently serves as the Executive Director of the Oral History Association. He is also a past president of the OHA and has chaired and served on a host of association committees. Stephen has won numerous awards for his projects, publications, and preservation efforts using oral history. His most recent publications are the co-edited anthology Oral History and the Environment: Global Perspectives on Climate, Connection, and Catastrophe and a co-authored book on remote oral history practice, Oral History at a Distance. Here in Waco, he created and runs the Waco History app and website (www.wacohistory.org) and is the host of the Waco History Podcast. In 2024, Dr. Sloan was named the Cornelia Marschall Smith Professor of the Year at Baylor University and a Big XII Faculty of the Year.
Randall Scott

Fifth generation Wacoan and owner of Brazos Music Group, is also the owner of the website wacotexashistoryinpictures.com and is the administrator for a number of Waco, Texas history pages and groups on social media. Randall Scott has been on the board for 2 years with 95% attendance for the past 12 months.
He has been Co President of the board and as of May 27, 2025 is now a Member of the Board.
